The next meeting of the God and Country Christian Alliance is Monday, April 21st at 7:00 pm at Moore's Old Tyme BBQ in New Bern. Many things are going on in our nation, state, and counties, so we need to stay vigilant and informed to make things better.

Our guest speaker for the evening will be Rosemary from the Havelock Pregnancy Resource Center, who will give us an update on the status of the center. Pregnancy Care/Resource Centers are at the tip-of-the-spear in the battle to save preborn lives and help their parents grow closer to God, so we need to support their missions. We'll also discuss some issues we’re seeing locally, in the current NC Legislative session, and nationally so that we can respond accordingly.

One of our esteemed members - Representative Keith Kidwell - and Representative Ben Moss Jr. have sponsored the Human Life Protection Act of 2025, which will prohibit abortion after conception except when necessary to preserve the life of the mother. Please thank Keith & Ben for sponsoring this bill, encourage them to persevere in the face of certain opposition, and ask our Representatives & Senators to cosponsor this bill (Find Your Legislators). There were 45,940 preborn babies killed in North Carolina during 2024 (not including self-managed abortions by women obtaining abortion pills from community networks, foreign pharmacies or through telehealth abortion providers). This is down only 0.2% from 2023 despite the law being changed to reduce the limits from 20 weeks to 12 weeks and is partially due to a 4.4% increase in women coming from out-of-state to get an abortion, which accounted for 36.2% of the total. We need to stand up for the preborn and continue to work towards making North Carolina the 13th state to totally ban abortion!

You can also show your support for life by participating in the NC Right to Life 27th Annual Rally & March for Life in Raleigh on May 17th. We'll talk more about this at the meeting and can help organize groups of people who are interested in going.

If you haven't heard, one of our esteemed members - Representative Keith Kidwell - and Representative John Torbett have been made cochairmen of NC House Speaker Destin Hall's Interim Select Committee on Government Efficiency. According to The Center Square; "Their job, similar to Musk and staff in Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, is to examine state and local government operations for potential waste, duplication of services, mismanagement, and violations of constitutional liberties." Keith has taken the moniker of "The BullDOGEr" for this position and Speaker Hall's press release said that the panel will focus on Diversity, Education, & Inclusion policies, excess state property, and potential wastes of taxpayer dollars. Please thank Keith & John for leading this effort and encourage them to persevere in the face of certain opposition. We're planning a trip to Raleigh during this legislative session and will hopefully get to meet with them and hear about their progress.

Also, please show your support for two of our local Pregnancy Care Centers that are having fundraising events in March (see announcements below). The Coastal Pregnancy Care Center in Morehead City is having their annual fundraising banquet on Thursday March 13th at the Crystal Coast Civic Center with Mr. Lee Strobel as the keynote speaker. Tickets are free and sponsorships are available. The Havelock Pregnancy Resource Center is hosting a Walk For Life & pancake breakfast on Saturday March 15th. Cost is $25 per participant. These centers are at the tip-of-the-spear in the battle to save preborn lives and help their parents grow closer to God, so please support their missions.

LET'S START THE YEAR OFF RIGHT!

The next meeting of the God and Country Christian Alliance is Monday, January 20th at 7:00 pm at Moore's Old Tyme BBQ in New Bern. This is our first meeting of 2025 so plan to come and help us determine the issues we need to prioritize and pay attention to this year.

We'll discuss what issues we expect to see in the upcoming NC Legislative session as well as things to look for from the US Congress & President Trump. With a more progressive NC Council of State, we can expect to see more progressive rules & regulations enacted even though the Legislature maintains an almost supermajority, which can be more insidious and harder to track & overturn. Be prepared to advocate for your most important issue as we discuss & prioritize what GCCA should spend our time and resources addressing.

GET OUT AND VOTE!

The next meeting of the God and Country Christian Alliance is Monday, October 21, 2024 at 7:00 pm at Moore's Old Tyme BBQ in New Bern. We'll review and vote on our 2025 budget, discuss the 2024 God & Country banquet & plans for the 2025 event, discuss the voter guide & current election, and start the discussion about holding a semiquincentennial (250th anniversary) celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in July 2026. We encourage all members to attend and participate in this meeting and on the planning committees.

Remember that early voting started Thursday Oct 17th so pray about your choice and use our voter guide to research the candidates & VOTE! Our voter guide is on our website: GCCA Website and we'll have NC Family Policy Council voter guides available at the meeting. Persons who are not registered or have moved to/within your county may register at early voting sites during the early voting period, which runs through November 2nd at 3 PM. When you register during early voting, you can immediately vote at that same early voting site but not on election day. Election Day is Tuesday Nov 5th. Voter ID is required, and Curbside Voting & Express Voting using a touch screen, is available at all polling sites.

Persons who are not registered in a county or have moved within the county may register at early voting sites during the early voting period. During the last meeting of the God and Country Christian Alliance on Monday April 15, 2024, we distributed the proposed update to the by-laws as recommended by Pastor Jim Kohr, Michael Speciale, and Jerry Schill, and we emailed the update to all members. Text highlighted in yellow are additions and text highlighted in red are deletions. We also emailed the proposed update on May 8th and will have paper copies available at Monday's meeting.

Our main agenda item during this meeting will be discussion of the proposed updates and the drafting of a final version, incorporating any changes made during the meeting, which will be sent to the membership-at-large on Tuesday May 21st. Anyone wishing to present additional updates during the meeting needs to present them in writing at the meeting or via mail or email to the Chairman prior to the meeting. A vote on the final version will be held during the meeting on June 17, 2024 without further discussion. Voting is limited to members in good standing, who are identified as those who have signed the original Membership Application and are current on their annual dues.

We've invited the four candidates involved in the May 14th runoff election for Lt. Governor and State Auditor to come speak to us if their schedule permits (Dave Boliek has confirmed so far). Remember that 3 of the 4 runoff candidates responded to our questionnaire and are in our Voter Guide (https://godandcountrync.org/voter-guides). Early runoff voting starts April 25th so make sure that you vote. We'll also have some Craven County Commissioners come back to update us on the vote about expanding alcohol sales on Sunday and we'll discuss our potential involvement in the North Carolina March for Life and Pamlico Pregnancy Center fund raiser banquet.

 NC has a higher abortion limit (20 weeks) than all of our neighbors except VA, so we're the go-to state for abortions in the southeast. There's even a billboard on I-77 in SC! The 20 week limit is going to be reduced during this legislative session (6 & 12 weeks have been discussed), so let's provide strong support for this bill, which will save ALL preborn lives.
